What Is This? Get Up, Stand Up is a platform
for which individuals from all walks of life can get up and get aware of their rights and stand up and take responsibility
to ensure those rights. Currently, our core commitment is centered on the right to vote. Nationwide,
over 5.3 million Americans currently or permanently have lost the right to vote.To deny someone the right to vote is to deny
them freedom, for how can an individual have freedom when they are denied the only means they have to secure and protect that
freedom? What Are You Doing? Beginning
in October of 2008, Get Up, Stand Up launched a campaign to end U.S. felony disenfranchisement. We support the restoration
of voting rights to men and women once they leave prison and re-enter the community. Because the ways for which the right
to vote is restored differs by state, this campaign currently operates on: the national level- working to attain a more
uniformed process for the restoration of voting rights. As it stands, where one calls home determines when and if that right
to vote will be restored. the state level- focusing on those states who continue to practice unjust
policies towards restoring the right to vote. Globally, we are committed to shedding the light
on everyones right to life. Life is a right and love and compassion know no boundaries. Why Should I Care? As Elie Wiesel once said: "The opposite of love
is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of
faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference."
